January 17, 2010

We have created a new title for our proposed legislation:

Colorado Citizen Funded Campaigns (CCFC)

Our proposed legislation has been edited to incorporate this change in the legislation and it has been submitted to the Legislative Council for review. The review will be made public on January 28, 1:30 P.M. at room 109 in the Capitol. Feel free to attend if you wish. No comments from the audience will be accepted at that time. Joel Leventhal and I (Jim Hoffmeister) will be the formal representatives for CCC at this meeting.

NEXT STEPS

Welcome to our new web page. It represents a step forward in our ability to communicate with those who may wish to learn more about and support our efforts to dramatically change how campaigns for public office are funded in Colorado. Our intent is to make it easy for readers to comment on any issue relevant to publicly-funded campaigns.

Details of Proposed Legislation

A PROGRAM FOR PUBLICLY FINANCED ELECTION CAMPAIGNS

************************************************************************
The program outlined below was developed by the Drafting Committee of Clean Campaigns Colorado, and is presented as one possible means for accomplishing public financing for State-level election campaigns in Colorado.
This Proposed Program is an amalgam of program elements from several States. These include the public financing programs in Maine, Arizona and Connecticut. The basic structure was inspired by PUBLIC CAMPAIGN’s 2001 "Model Law."

Latest Update

June, 2009

During the past several months we have continued to solicit opinions regarding both the constitutionality and the practical aspects of the legislation proposed by Clean Campaigns Colorado and to monitor the results from the three states that have enacted such legislation: Arizona, Connecticut, and Maine. Efforts to find one or more Colorado legislators who would be willing to carry the proposed legislation during the 2008 legislative session were unsuccessful.
